Net Zero 2019: Pathways to Net Zero

In October, 2019, the Climate Collaborative held its second annual Net Zero Cape & Islands roundtable conference. The conference convened 150 climate action leaders and policy makers from across the Cape & Islands to share best practices, strategies and goals for achieving “net zero.” The event built upon the foundation laid at lthe 2018 inaugural Net Zero Cape & Islands conference, and identified strategies and actions for moving the Cape & Islands to our Net Zero Goals.

Net Zero 2018: The Net Zero Goals

In our inaugural Net Zero Cape & Islands conference, we gathered organizations, institutions and businesses from across the Cape & Islands to identify and evaluate a set of Net Zero Goals:

The Net Zero Goals:

GOAL 1: Reduce fossil fuel usage by 50% from 19902 levels on the Cape & Islands by 2030.

GOAL 2: Achieve 100% use of renewable electricity by 2050.

GOAL 3: Determine how the natural carbon balance is changing over time and recommend ways that Cape & Islands residents can enhance and increase carbon storage by natural processes.

GOAL 4: Educate residents about causes and impacts of climate change, the Cape & Island Net Zero Goals, and priority action steps for achieving the Goals.
