In a logical step forward in Cape Cod’s efforts to better coordinate regional responses to climate change, the Cape Cod Climate Change Collaborative and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce will soon be finalizing an organizational change to align their resources more closely. Recognizing the need for an integrated approach to addressing the urgent challenges of climate change, the Cape Cod Climate Change Collaborative, formed in 2016, will convert to a membership organization with the Cape Cod Chamber as its sole member.
This organizational shift will leverage the strengths of both and align efforts to strengthen local adaptation and resilience, address grid readiness for clean energy, and amplify mitigation initiatives. As this is a “whole of community approach,” close coordination will continue with critical community organizations such as the Cape Cod Commission, Cape Light Compact, Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority, and others.
Dan Wolf, Climate Collaborative Executive Committee member and former chair of the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, has pointed out that the Chamber has led the way on issues of regional impact for decades.
Paul Niedzwiecki, Chamber CEO, has said that they have long realized that “the environment is the economy on Cape Cod.”
Dorothy Savarese, current Climate Collaborative Board Chair and also a former chair of the Chamber, praised Niedzwiecki and the Chamber for the solution-focused approach to constructing an innovative model to even more effectively integrate efforts to address this threat to our communities.
